The way that the National Association of Social Workers ( NASW) answers, what is social work, is by describing the primary mission of social work as, “to enhance human well-being and help meet basic and complex needs of all people, with a particular focus on those who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty.” It involves defined processes and methodologies to enhance the well-being of individuals, and help meet the basic and complex needs of social communities, especially those in our communities who are vulnerable. ![]() Social work is a practice that focuses on helping individuals, families, and communities to meet their basic needs and to function well in society.
